Summary:
Luffy and Zoro fight Basil Hawkins’ men. Hawkins eventually intervenes and shows them his powers. Komachiyo grabs Luffy and Zoro and runs away from the battle, but Hawkins chases after them.
Luffy and Zoro meet up with Basil Hawkins, who has become one of Kaidou’s officers. They begin to fight, with Luffy now armed with a katana. Luffy and Zoro decimate Hawkins’ troops.
Luffy is attacked by a giant lizard. Luffy takes the animal lizard and throws it at Hawkins, who impales the animal with a straw sword. Zoro attacks Hawkins with a flying slash, but one of Hawkins’ subordinates mysteriously ends up slashing instead.
Hawkins explains his Devil Fruit power; he has straw dolls hidden in his body, each representing one of his soldiers. Whenever he is attacked, he simply transfers the damage to one of his dolls and then damages the person the doll represents, leaving Hawkins unharmed. Hawkins suggests playing a “game” and summoning a giant straw monster floating above him.
Hawkins draws a tarot card from his deck. Finally, he draws the “Reversed Fool” card, making his subordinates fight among themselves.
Komachiyo suddenly enters the battlefield and takes Zoro and Luffy away as they flee the battle while Luffy fights the pursuing soldiers. However, Hawkins draws his second card, the “Reverse Hierophant” card. This causes Hawkins’ straw monster to chase after Komachiya, Zoro, and Luffy.
Luffy and Zoro’s confrontation with Hawkins’ group continues.
Before the fight begins, Luffy and Zoro talk about Nidai Kitetsu for more than the manga.
The anime shows that Luffy has more sword skills than what was shown in the manga.
A scene of Tama thinking about Ace is added.
Zoro fights a long-tailed man and Luffy fights an enemy using a giant hammer.
When Luffy dodges a lizard bite, he only dodged once in the manga. He dodges several times in the anime.
When Hawkins summons the straw entity, Zoro is not shown licking his blade like in the manga. Instead, he is only shown smiling. Also in the manga, Luffy attached a sword scabbard to his waist. In the anime, she holds the scabbard in her right hand.
After Komachiyo grabs Luffy and Zoro, Hawkins’ men chase them. In the manga, it was only a straw entity.
