Summary:

Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper fish from the side of the ship while the rest of the crew relaxes. Chopper catches a big fish and Usopp catches a small one. Sanji offers Nami some tropical juice that he says will soften her skin, and Luffy and the others ask for it as well because they want to look cuter. Luffy continues fishing and pulls up a large sea snail and the crew debates whether or not to cook it. Before they can, the hatch on the side of the snail shell opens and a man steps out. He introduces himself as Rice Rice, a traveling salesman from the Den-Den Company who was lost in a storm during a delivery. He thanks them by offering them free product catalogs. While he was explaining his craft to most of the crew, Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper wander into his Escar and start playing with his inventory. He interrupts them and takes the Buru Buru Blade from Luffy, explaining its various properties and apparent value. When he sees Chopper playing with the Ab-Ab Slider, he does the same, claiming that both were his company’s “Number 1” product. He then straps Usopp to the Goldfish to demonstrate its functions, much to Usopp’s dismay, and then offers three products, Mero Mero Juice, a stack of encyclopedias, and binoculars for Beli23,800.

As the crew looked through the catalogs, Sanji noticed the company’s collection of knives. Rice Rice offered him a super flexible knife from High Mountain, and then offered him a dozen table knives, scissors, a paring knife and an electric sharpener for Beli2,980. He tried to pitch his Silky Smooth Skin soap to Robin and she commented on his company’s huge inventory. Luffy asked him if they sold live animals, and when Rice Rice told him they didn’t, the captain was disappointed.

Nami asked if he sold paper strong enough to withstand the elements. Rice Rice unveiled his Millennium Paper, explaining its qualities and possible uses. When Luffy asked if it could be used to make paper airplanes, Rice Rice said in annoyance that it would be a waste. Recognizing Nami’s strong desire for the newspaper, he tried to cheat her and raise the price of the paper. He offers it to her at a “reduced rate” of 48 million Beli and she asks him if he can lower it further. When he offered to sell it for Beli 47.5 million, she countered with an offer of Beli 2 million. Although Rice Rice fell back on Beli’s offer of 4.8 million, Sanji said he would pay for it. He ties Luffy up and suggests that they make him a marine and Rice Rice realizes that it was the notorious pirate Monkey D. Luffy. As he shakes with fear, he notices the cheerful roger of the crew and falls aboard the ship, cowering nervously. He quickly jumps to his feet and excuses himself that he had an appointment, gets into his Escar and makes a hasty escape from the ship.

With Rice Rice gone, the crew notices that he left the inventory he was showing them, including the Millennium Paper that Nami wanted. He takes it to his room and tells his crew to be quiet and watch the clouds for a change in weather. He decides to start realizing his dream of drawing a world map and settles down to draw Little Garden, Drum Island and Arabasta. She remembers standing on a cliff in the village of Cocoyasi with Bell-mère and Nojiko and asking her mother where the wind and the sea come from. Bell-mère answers, laughing and patting her daughter on the head. Nami then remembers when she returned to that place after stealing books from a store in her village and her mother came to bring her home for dinner. Nami asks her mother about what’s beyond the sea, to which Bell-mère replies that she didn’t know beyond the Grand Line. She then told her mother of her determination to travel the world and make a map wherever she went.

Back outside, Sanji orders Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper to clear the deck of the ship. Zoro argues that Robin should be helping instead of resting with her book, but Sanji defends her. Zoro and Sanji start arguing over this, causing the deck of the ship to shake. With a clatter, Nami’s ink pen slides across the paper as she is in the middle of a stroke. Distraught, she comes out of her room and hits them both on the head, telling everyone to be quiet. He returns to his drawing and begins a new design.

Back outside, Luffy, Usopp and Chopper try to clean the ship by riding the Ab-Ab Slider with a mop. They use Silky Smooth Skin Soap and create foamy bubbles that cover the entire package. Nami walks out when she hears them laughing loudly and is surprised by the bubbles. Luffy gets carried away and falls off the Ab-Ab Slider and overboard. He grabs the puppet to stop himself from falling into the sea, but he dashes straight into Nami’s room, knocking all of her map-making supplies to the floor. He furiously demands that everyone keep quiet or he will charge them all with Beli100,000. Luffy tries to apologize but he pushes them all away. Chopper is scared and saddened by Nami’s frustration.

Nami returns to her map making and everyone but Chopper falls asleep on board the ship. He notices the clouds change and a tornado appears in front of them. Terrified, he tries to tell Nami, but remembers her threat. Unsure of what to do, he sits in fear on the deck of the ship. Nami finishes her first map and leaves her room to find Chopper crying because of the tornado and unable to tell her. She assures him that everything will be fine and wakes up the crew. They all jump to raise the sails and steer the ship, except Robin, who continues to read in the rain. After they make it through the storm, Nami tells everyone about her first map and reaffirms her dream of mapping the entire sea. Robin finishes reading and closes the book and the crew lowers the sails to continue forward.
