Summary:
Brownbeard was seen taking over the Foodvalten and saying it was no longer Whitebeard’s territory, Iva said goodbye to Jinbe and the others. Boa Hancock, Heart Pirates and Jinbe made it to Amazon Lily. Luffy woke up and went on a rampage on the east coast looking for Ace. Later, while talking to Jinbe, he understood that Ace was no longer alive.
In West Blue, a village was attacked – Lascamp. The Marines are already busy with the rise in piracy after the war in Marineford. Since not all information was revealed, some Marines wondered how the fall of Whitebeard and the victory of the Marines would lead to an increase in the number of pirates flooding the seas. While a few days after the war, the island of Foodvalten in the New World is attacked. The island was under Whitebeard’s territory, but since Whitebeard died in the war, the island became vulnerable. Brownbeard, the pirate, then declared to the people of the Foodvalten Islands that he would be their ruler.
Ivankov left with the other Impel Down refugees and said goodbye to Jinbo and an unconscious Luffy. Meanwhile, the Kuja ship encountered the Heart Pirates submarine and Hancock decided to have Luffy treated on the Island of Women – Amazon Lilies. As a result of the Kuja Laws, Luffy and the Heart Pirates were not allowed into the Kuja Palace, but were instead allowed to stay in the bay of the Isle of Women. Boa Hancock, very sad that Luffy is still unconscious, refuses to eat. Luffy, after days of being unconscious, went through the events of Ace’s release and death in his memory. Luffy woke up, destroying the submarine and yelling “Where’s Ace?”.
The Heart Pirates crew members tried to immobilize Luffy, but he easily pushed them away. Distraught at not finding Ace, Luffy went into the forest and destroyed trees. Remembering what happened in Marineford, Luffy hit his head against the trees and said to make the memory disappear. Then Jinbe appeared. He told Luffy that the war was over and tried to tell him about Ace, but Luffy told him not to talk. After accepting Ace’s death, Luffy cried uncontrollably.
Since One Piece still continues one chapter per episode, the following scenes have been added or extended.
Jinbe and Ivankov talked about meeting each other thanks to Luffy.
A new scene was shown of the Heart Pirates entering the harbor and encountering initial hostility. This also included Hancock and Nyon arguing over whether or not to allow the men to remain on the island. They eventually compromised and allowed the Heart Pirates to dock in the bay.
After two weeks, a scene of the Heart Pirates being fed and a brief interaction with Kuja was shown.
When Luffy woke up, he was seen damaging the submarine and was chased by the crew before entering the forest.
The scene where Luffy meets Ace, the beginning of the flashback, was not shown, making it even shorter than the actual chapter.
This episode aired with Dragon Ball Kai Episode 97, A Bittersweet Victory! Until we meet again! as part of the Dream 9 programming block on Fuji TV. The following week, the final episode of Dragon Ball Kai would not air, and the Dream 9 block would only consist of filming episode 491, followed by a transition between One Piece and the new Toriko anime.
Speaking of which, the next episode preview for 492 in 491 is for a special crossover with the Toriko anime (which is actually both episodes 492 One Piece and 1 Toriko). However, the episode that chronologically immediately follows this one had no preview.
