Summary:
After Sabo’s death, Ace and Luffy continue their training while the others discover the Revolutionaries’ ship. Meanwhile, Dragon tells Ivankov that he has attracted too much attention and leaves for Baltigo. In Gray Terminal, the villagers begin to accumulate more junk. In the forest, Ace grows to like Luffy more as a brother when Luffy is nearly crushed by a bear. After seven years of intense training, Ace leaves the kingdom of Goa for the ocean, and Dadan is emotionally distraught. Another three years pass and Luffy says goodbye to everyone as he departs on his journey to the Grand Line. Luffy once again encounters the Sea King, who had eaten Shanks’ arm, and uses the Gomu Gomu no Pistol technique to defeat him. In the present, Luffy is still upset that Ace died and declares to Jinbe that he is too weak.
Ace begins to care for Luffy more like a brother after he is nearly crushed to death by a bear. Ace then sets out on his own seven years later, saying goodbye to the mountain bandits and Luffy. Dogra arrives a few months later and shows Luffy a newspaper that talks about Ace and his new crew. Three years later, Luffy sets out from the kingdom of Goa. He then beats up the Coast Lord for eating Shanks’ arm and showing the results of his forest training.
Present: Luffy states that he is weak in front of Jinbe, implying that he can’t be the Pirate King he wants to be, given that he wasn’t able to protect Ace or his friends.
In the scene where the Dragon returned to the ship, Ivankov pointed to someone the Dragon appeared to be carrying and wondered who it was. Soon after, various members of the Revolutionary Army are heard frantically calling for medical help for someone. In the Dressrosa Arc, it is later revealed to be Sabo who was saved by Dragon.
Sabo’s imagination seems to encourage Luffy to aim for the center of the rock after failing the first time while practicing his Gomu Gomu no Pistol. In the manga, Luffy breaks the rock on his first try.
Luffy defeating the Lord of the Coast is properly shown in the anime version for the first time in this episode.
