Summary:
More of Chopper’s past is revealed, including the fate of Dr. Hiriluk and Wapolo’s cruelties as king. Meanwhile, Wapol arrives at a castle where the Straw Hat Pirates reside.
Long summary
Luffy is locked in a room by Chopper, but steals the key and is able to get out. After Luffy starts chasing Chopper again, he suddenly stops as he senses Wapol is nearby.
Kureha continues to tell the story of Chopper’s past. Chopper is running through the forest when he suddenly hits a tree, then he remembers hearing Wapol’s soldiers talking about a mushroom that can cure all diseases, at Isshi-20’s request. He enters Hiriluk’s place and looks for the book where the mushroom is depicted. After finding the book, he sets out on a journey to find Amiudak. On his voyage, he encounters a herd of reindeer. One of the reindeer headbutts him as Chopper stands up again, fighting back. Later, he finally finds the mushroom, but the herd has followed him. Hiriluk is experimenting in his lab when the door opens, he is stunned when Chopper walks in extremely beaten. With a closed eye and a broken leg, he delivers the saprophyte to his friend. Quack kneels to him and hugs him as he cries, telling him that his kind heart will make him a great doctor. After the quack eats the mushroom soup, he goes into town and orders Chopper to rest. In the city, soldiers are restricting access to Drum Castle as Wapol has ordered them to say that all the doctors in the castle are sick. Kureha arrives at Hiriluka’s cave where Chopper shows the mushroom he was feeding. Horrified, Kureha beats Chopper and tells him that the mushroom was poison. Sob tries to deny her claims, but Kureha reassures him of her claims, telling him that there is no cure that works for all diseases, that’s why doctors exist, and being kind isn’t enough to save people. Kureha goes on to explain that Chopper needs medical skills and training to use them. Chopper realizes what he’s done and starts crying hysterically as a grief-stricken Kureha calls him a poor fool.
Hiriluk arrives in town and throws two bombs at the guards. He then orders the guard to take him to the top of the mountain where the castle is. When he gets to the castle, Wapol reveals that he lied about Isshi-20 being sick because it was just a trap for him so he could be executed. Meanwhile, Chopper runs towards the mountain to save Hiriluk, but arrives after the doctor has blown himself up. Dalton stops an enraged Chopper because if he fights he will only end up dead. Dalton confirms that he will carry on Hiriluk’s legacy. Because he rebels against Wapol, Dalton is locked up.
Back in the present, Luffy sees Wapolo and the others on top of a mountain. Chopper also lets Kure know of their arrival.
