Summary:
Nami and Vivi find an easier way to travel in the desert and leave all the men behind. While trying to catch up with them, Ace gets lost. Luffy and the rest of the gang find the barbarian pirates and Vivi meets a character from her past.
The Straw Hats are on their way through the desert and Luffy is really thirsty. Vivi and Nami overtake them because they are going to Matsuga. Zoro drags Chopper because he can’t stand the heat. Suddenly, Luffy begins to see a tsunami coming and Usopp remembers that he let him drink a cactus during their journey. Chopper realizes that it was a psychoactive cactus that causes hallucinations. Luffy tries to hit the others and Chopper injects him with a tranquilizer. Zoro drags Luffy and they continue on their way, but they suddenly notice that they have lost sight of Nami and Vivi, as well as Ace. Luffy wakes up and everyone blames him for getting lost. Usopp starts to hear something, and as they drive through the dunes, a pirate ship sails through the sand. Usopp then sees that the pirates have captured Nami and Vivi. Luffy starts running towards the ship and the others follow. Then he reaches out and wraps his arms around the mast. It crashes into the mast and breaks it. The mast then falls overboard the ship. A giant scorpion comes out from under the sand in front of Ace and tells him not to dare. Luffy is on board the ship with the pirates and tells them that he is really thirsty. Nami asks if he came to save them, but he says he only came to get water. The pirate captain walks towards Luffy and mentions that they are the Barbarian Pirates. He also mentions that they have a saying: you can eat all living things in the desert except your friends. Luffy talks to Barbarossa and later apologizes for treating Luffy’s friends like that. He says they were really hungry and wanted something to eat. Then one pirate says they can’t leave because the mainmast is broken and without it they won’t have enough thrust to get through the sand. Luffy decides to collect wood for the pirates to repair the ship since he is responsible for breaking it. They give them a sand sled and let Rasa and Zab accompany them, since they know where the Meriyasu oasis is.
Ace goes and the scorpion is behind him, defeated by the smoke coming from him. Then he says he warned him.
Meanwhile, Luffy and Vivi are in trouble after Rasa pushes their sled into quicksand.
Sanji and Zoro are working inside Barbarossa’s ship and Nami is talking to him. The Sandora Desert Bandits approach the ship’s location to fight the pirates. Sandora Giant Bug carries a large ball of dung across the dune, only to release it towards the Barbarian Pirate ship. Barbarossa tries to stop the dross after gaining strength, but is quickly overpowered so Zoro cuts him to pieces and Sanji smashes the debris coming towards the ship. Giant Gecko plays with Ace’s rate, but after seeing the roasted scorpion, he starts crying. Meanwhile, Luffy is able to reach for the sled that Rasa is piloting to pull their sled back on course. Luffy and the others arrive at the oasis only to find everything buried. Here they learn about Rasa’s story. At dusk, Ace is seen riding a gecko and yelling after Luffy.
