Summary:
As they sailed with the Whitebeard Pirates for four years and learned more about the world, Oden and Toki fell in love and Toki gave birth to Momonosuke and Hiyori.
However, a few years ago on Wano Orochi he met an old woman who could change her appearance. She told him how the Kurozumi family came close to seizing power before they fell, and offered to help him gain the title of Shogun. Orochi amassed a fortune by borrowing and stealing from Yasui and Oden, and an old woman impersonated Oden to get him a job at the Shogun’s castle, lying that he and Orochi were like brothers. When Sukiyaki became ill, the woman then impersonated him and decided that Orochi would be the shogun’s temporary successor until Oden returned.
Meanwhile, the whitebeard pirates headed to the island where the ruckus was going on. This ruckus was because of the Roger Pirates and Roger was looking forward to fighting Whitebeard on his last journey.
While Moby Dick sailed through the New World, Oden and Toki studied a rough map of the world. Oden asked where Toki was born and she didn’t know but wanted to go to Wano Country because her parents were from there. Oden replied that they might not be able to get there, but she was fine with that as long as she was with him. One day, the Whitebeard Pirates fled from a battalion of marines, and Oden wanted to fight them. Whitebeard said it wouldn’t be in their best interest and revealed that the Marines have control over the entire world. This surprised Oden and Whitebeard told him that Wano was still free in a way.
Two years after Oden and Toki joined the Whitebeard Pirates, Toki gave birth to their son, whom Oden named Kozuki Momonosuke. Izou advised that they return to Wano for Momonosuke’s safety as Oden now had a bounty on his head, but Oden and Toki assured him that they would be fine. When this happened, Nekomamushi read the newspapers and noted that they never reported on the events in Wano, as he wanted to know how their comrades were doing. Some time later, Whitebeard decided to divide his growing crew into divisions and appointed Oden as the leader of the second division, which Oden was not happy about. The Whitebeard Pirates continued to explore new islands and take in new people, including an orphan named Teach. The more Oden saw during this voyage, the more he wanted to continue the adventure.
Back on Wano, the four daimyo went to the Flower Capital to rally around the seriously ill Sukiyaki. Sukiyaki decides that Oden will succeed him as shogun, but appoints an acting regent to rule while Oden is gone. He chose Orochi for this position, whom he believed to be like Oden’s little brother. Yasuie was surprised to see Orochi there, as well as hearing that he had such a relationship with Oden. Orochi graciously accepted Sukiyaki’s gift and promised to redeem the Kurozumi family from their grandfather’s betrayal.
However, more than 13 years before that, Orochi was approached by an old woman who predicted that he would become the Shogun. She asked if he knew what happened to his grandfather, and Orochi stated that he was executed for committing treason. The old woman laughed at this and said that trying to get power is not a crime. She revealed that during his grandfather’s time, the Kozuki family did not have an heir to the shogunate, so the leaders of the daimyo families including the Kurozumi family were the best choice to follow the shogun. Orochi’s grandfather tried to make himself a pioneer by poisoning the other daimyo, and their deaths saddened the shogun and brought him closer to death. However, the Shogun managed to unexpectedly produce an heir to Sukiyaki. Orochi’s grandfather’s plot was eventually exposed and he was sentenced to commit seppuku, leaving his family to lose power and wealth and live in poverty. After hearing this story, Orochi was captivated by the idea that he could have become the Shogun and blamed Sukiyaki for preventing it. The old woman then revealed that she could change her appearance with the Mane Mane no Mi and gifted Orochi with the Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Yamata no Orochi, saying that she would give him the power to become Shogun if he followed her instructions. Orochi agreed and the woman ordered him to gather gold and start making weapons to gain powerful allies.
Orochi first went to Hakumai, where Yasuie agreed to let him work for him. Orochi eventually disappeared, taking all the gold in Yasuie’s safe with him. He then went to Kuri where he asked Oden many times to lend him money. Despite being warned against it by his servants, Oden always agreed. Later, Orochi went with Oden to the Shogun’s castle, where Oden asked that Orochi get a job there, saying that he was like his little brother. However, Oden was actually an old woman in disguise. In the present, after being declared Sukiyaki’s temporary successor, Orochi was laughing with the shogun the old woman was pretending to be.
During the fourth year of Oden’s voyage, the Whitebeard Pirates notice the sea creatures fleeing the island in panic and talk about checking it out as Oden and Toki try to comfort the crying Momonosuke and Hiyori. The crew anchored off the island and even found land animals running away. On the other side of the island, the Roger Pirates brutally beat up a group of marines when Buggy alerts them that the Whitebeard Pirates have arrived. Roger decides to go and confront them as this may be the last time he meets Whitebeard.
