Summary:

10 years ago, Arlong paid tribute to every adult and child in Cocoyasi Village as he claimed it as his property. Bell-mère could not pay for her and her two adopted daughters. She sacrificed herself rather than admit that the girls were not related to her.
To stay alive, each villager had to pay the Arlong pirates 100,000 Beli and an additional 50,000 Beli per child. Everyone in Cocoyasi village was able to pay and was getting ready to leave. However, one noticed Bell-mère’s isolated house when he noticed smoke coming from a chimney among the trees.
Genzo knew very well that he could not afford to pay such a high price. He asked her two adopted daughters, Nami and Nojiko, to run away and hide. When the fish men arrived at Bell-mère’s house, she attacked them. However, she was no match for their brute strength. When Genzo told her about the pirate’s demands. She agreed and gave Arlong Bela 100,000. The pirates believe she was paying for herself as an adult. But as they were about to leave, she told them the money was for her two adopted daughters. She couldn’t leave them, and after expressing her love for the two, they tried to run to her side. She accepts her fate as Arlong raises a gun to her head and tells them that this will be a warning to any villagers who cannot pay. When their mother was executed, there was a loud bang and both children buried their crying faces in horror.
