Summary:
At Marine Corps Headquarters, all the Marines are suddenly on high alert when news breaks that Shanks and Whitebeard are set to meet. As the two pirate ships approach each other, Whitebeard’s men announce that Shanks is coming. Marco gives a warning to the younger crew members to back off because they “won’t last”, prompting them to question why. They soon get their answer as one by one the weaker members of the crew collapse unconscious to the floor. Unfazed by the situation, Marco makes sure the crew doesn’t make a fuss of it, while Jozu notes that Shanks’ Haki is as strong as ever.
Shanks apologizes for his actions because the Whitebeard is still an enemy ship, he was just being careful. Marco shows what Shanks did to him, Shanks turns around and in return asks him to join his crew, which Marco angrily refuses his offer.
Whitebeard pours the sake that Shanks brought back from his hometown in West Blue and the two reminisce about old times. Whitebeard recalls his days fighting Gol D. Roger and seeing Shanks as an apprentice during their fights along with the funny big nose Shanks had hanging around. Shanks refutes his own memory that the couple broke up in Loguetown after Roger’s death. Whitebeard notices the fight between Shanks and Mihawk still ringing in his ear. When the subject of his missing left arm comes up, Shanks replies that he bet on the future and remembered Luffy.
The conversation takes a more serious tone when Shanks points to his scarred left eye. It was given to him by one of Whitebeard’s crew, Marshall D. Teach. Knowing what Teach has been up to all these years, Shanks tries to warn Whitebeard of what might happen if Ace and Teach meet, begging Whitebeard to stop the search. When Whitebeard flatly refuses and states that he will teach Teach about morality, Shanks responds by drawing his sword and declaring that the Era of Rampage will not be stopped. Whitebeard and Shanks clash weapons and split the sky to the shock of both captains’ crews.
Blackbeard’s crew prepares to pursue Luffy, who has had his bounty increased and is also nearby. However, they are stopped by Ace, who has finally found them.
